Info: The founder and “leader” of Kawaii Scans. She sometimes stretches herself too thin to make everyone else happy. A bit moody but generally a good person as long as you keep feeding her chocolate chip cookies and more yuri. A dog lover, a fan of super-quiet-alone-time and proud sister of mint.
Info: MaiNoKen is an old school digital fansubber. He has translated a few anime and manga titles including Kanamemo (manga) and GadGuard (anime). Apart from Otaku culture, he enjoys reading novels and history books. He has soft spot on anything cute… Give him Tarutarus and Azunyan to hug!
Info: Hello, readers. Look at your grammar, now back to mine, now back to yours, now back to mine. Sadly, it isn’t mine, but if you stop reading youtube comments and start reading the manga we picked up, yours could look like mine. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re on a cozy bed with a 100% score on your essay. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s a full scholarship to that college you love. Look again, the scholarship is now a best-selling novel. Anything is possible when your grammar looks like mine and not like a youtube comment. I’m on a chair.
Quality Checker: mint
Info: Mint is an exceptionally lazy girl who enjoys long, undisturbed naps and delicious, fattening foods. She also has an unhealthy addiction to scratch cards and mahjong as well as a strange infatuation with the color red. Ultimately, she just wants to study brains.
Info: The basic stuff to know about me is that I love playing sports, listening to my music, and reading and watching as much yuri as my grubby hands can get on… yes, yes… this is all quite a repeat to many other bio’s on the net…. so here’s an interesting fact about me. I am one of the few girls to have finished the challenge at a steakhouse. Don’t ask me how I did it cos it wasn’t pretty… The challenge: 1kg (about 2.2 lbs) rump steak, full rack of ribs and chips (fries). So would that be Hall of Fame or Shame???
Info: Aspiring translator that got his start bringing Maria-sama ga Miteru novels to the English readership. My all-time favorite mangaka is probably Hiyori Otsu, followed quickly by Shizuru Hayashiya. When I’m not cooing or burning with jealousy over adorable girl’s love, I enjoy playing mahjong, shooting abstract photography, collecting Art Deco and hunting down Japanese garage sales. Translation for me is a unique and fun way to combine my latent writing skills with an otherwise useless five year English and Japanese Bachelor’s degree. If you want to make me croon, sit me down with a cup of white tea and macaroons and tell me how Sena Jun makes you swoon.
Info: I’m not very talkative but I’m a good listener (even if I don’t know the person). I like games, mostly RPG and FPS. I’m air headed but I’m always giving my best in everything I do. Pretty blunt if asked for opinion. I think the best thing to do is play fair, be loyal and to forgive but never to forget. Special ability: Gaming Frenzy Mode, Reading Berserk Mode, Swimming Mode. (Notice that the character will ignore the rest of the world while in any mode)
Info: Tethysdust is a big fan of Japanese, video games, and physics, all of which she studied during her undergraduate career. Translating is her way of continuing her obsessive study of the Japanese language while (hopefully) being useful to others. When not translating, Tethysdust can often be found killing zombies or working on her research.
Info: I’m an Otaku. I love manga and anime in all it’s forms, especially Yuri-that’s why I’m here! I’m a big fan of Shoujo manga in particular. I’m a pretty closeted person studying software development in college. I’m also a big fan of the occult, especially Tarot Cards and Runes.
Info: Loevet found, perhaps like many of the other translators, translating manga for Kawaii Scans a wonderful way to combine his passion for Japanese and yuri while contributing to the yuri community. Loevet also has a great love for tea, history and classical music, and may often find himself enjoying these hobbies when he should rather be translating.
Info: I spend most of my free time reading manga, watching anime, or playing video games. I play almost all genres of games, with the exception being sports and racing games. Most of the time I’m pretty quiet, and I just sit back and listen to conversations.
Quality Checker: iPachin
Info: iPachin is just your not so average gamer. She loves RPG games and is a big fan of Mass Effect, Adventure Time and anything yuri-related!
When she’s not living a crazy life as a barista or QCing, she’s usually spending time with her girlfriend, playing video games or is on tumblr for massive hours!
Info: HI! She is a Alcoholic, Y/u/ri Fanatic, Ex-MMO Addict, Videogame Junkie, Efficiency obsessed, with a bad case of Attention deficit Ooooooh, shiiiiinnnyyyy…. She is majoring in computer science, who hopes to learn Japanese in the near future, but is shocked that she has the attention span to get anything done (Actually I use my ADOS to my advantage quiet well). She loves to travel and if you offer the chance will totally crash on your couch. Dreams of not being a forever alone, but is very good at keeping herself entertained without anyone else around.
Info: Doctor Hello lives in a dark, dank basement somewhere in frozen Northern Europe, munching chips and guzzling discount cola while watching anime meant for little girls (and drawing more enjoyment from it than should be strictly legal). When he digs his way out of the mess of Monster cans and chip bags that comprise the equivalent of air in his room, he rounds up a group of fellow geeks and plays tabletop Vampire the Masquerade.
Oh yeah, and once in a while he writes and does proofreading jobs for various people, but he’s often busy doing nothing.
One has to ponder the sanity present in hiring a lazy, cola-guzzling ponytailed neckbeard as a proofreader, but at least he likes yuri.
Way too much.
Quality Checker: SomeMonk
Info: Sometimes theres a man…I won’t say hero, ’cause what’s a hero? But sometimes there’s a man. And I’m talkin’ about SomeMonk here. Sometimes, there’s a man, well, and he’s the QC for a genre and group. He fits right in there. And that’s SomeMonk, in KawaiiScans. And even if he’s a fastidious man — and SomeMonk was most certainly that. Quite possibly the most fastidious man in KawaiiScans, which would place him high in the runnin’ for most fastidious worldwide. But sometimes there’s a man, sometimes, there’s a man. Aw. I lost my train of thought here. But… aw, hell. I’ve done introduced him enough.
Quality Checker: Commentator
Info: Here you see the Commentator in its natural habitat, the internet. Today, it is helping the Kawaii team by checking edited manga for errors before they are released to the English speaking public. Why does it take its time to do such tasks instead of writing its own marvelous tales you ask? After years of study, we have determined that despite the wonderful ideas that rebound within its mind, the Commentator has only a mediocre ability to draw out its own stories and nearly zero drive to complete personal projects. While rarely seen, this creature is still most likely to be spotted in areas where yuri is abundant.
Quality Checker: Clinical
Info: Likes: yuri manga, fresh fruit, SCIENCE!, music, RPGs, solitude.
Dislikes: Any sort of forceful negativity.
Clinical is a laid-back newbie in the QCing world, partly balanced by his tendency to be a stickler for good spelling and grammar. Tends to feel solely responsible for any errors remaining in the finished product. He is a health nut, but a lazy one.
Info: Don’t know what to say about myself beside that my favorite artists are Eiki Eiki/Zaou Taishi and
that the only hobbies I have are reading and watching manga and anime and sleeping. So yeah, that all I got to say.
Info: I am just your average language-inclined young Scot. With a duck obsession. (Seriously, Google Eurasian Wigeon. Adorable!) In my free time I translate things from French into English for kicks, write the odd short story and, of course, read manga. In my non-free time, I study Popular Music and French at university. My future plans include becoming a professional translator and playing keyboard/piano in West End musicals. coughWickedcough. Proofreading is my way of sticking a lead on my inner Grammar Nazi and taking him for a walk.
Info: I’m a newbie translator who enjoys using manga as a learning tool! I’ll be spending the next year in Tokyo where hopefully my skills will improve and thus allow me to provide more moe to the world!
